Professor Haibo Wang received his medical degree (MBBS) from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in China, a Master of Science (MSc) from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Harvard School of Public Health in the United States.
He is the Founding Director of the Research Centre of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for Medicine at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University. He also serves as the Founding Director of the Big Data Centre of the National Health Commission (NHC) of the People’s Republic of China for Human Tissue, Organ Transplant and Medicine, and Director of the Department of Medical Artificial Intelligence Education, Zhongshan Medical School, Sun Yat-sen University.
Professor Wang is a Member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Task Force on Human Organ Donation and Transplantation. He is widely recognized as the founder and principal architect of China’s official national organ allocation system—the China Organ Transplant Response System (COTRS). His leadership and contributions in establishing a transparent, equitable, and accountable allocation framework have been central to China’s successful organ transplant reform.
As a scientist working at the intersection of data science and artificial intelligence in medicine, Professor Wang’s research focuses on the development and deployment of advanced AI technologies to reshape clinical practice, health-system operations, and organ transplantation governance. He has published extensively in leading international journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), The Lancet, The British Medical Journal (BMJ), NEJM.AI, and The Lancet Digital Health.
