Biography

Prof. Shenglan Tang, MD, MPH, PhD, is the Mary DBT & James H Semans Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Global Health at Duke University. He currently serves as Director of the Global Health Research Center at Duke Kunshan University and previously held the role of Deputy Director at the Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI).
Prof. Tang has over three decades of experience in global health and health systems. Before joining Duke, he held senior positions at the World Health Organization, where he provided strategic leadership and technical expertise to governments in Africa and Asia. His work contributed to major health system reforms, universal health coverage (UHC) policies, and disease control programs, including tuberculosis and malaria initiatives in low- and middle-income countries.
Prof. Tang received medical and public health training at Shanghai Medical University (now part of Fudan University, Shanghai, China) in 1980-1988, and was awarded MPH from University of Washington, Seattle in 1992, and PhD from University of Sussex, UK in 1999.
